ARTISTIC DIVING – SIPALAY

Another remote location but not difficult to get to with ‘THE BEAST’.

Actually, it’s not too difficult by land either, but it just looks like it’s a long way from anywhere. It is thanks to Arthur and Evalyn, I believe, that this area has become developed enough to be able to attract people with excellent diving and accommodation facilities. In fact, I have been told that a lot of the other resort owners on this beach started out as guests with Arthur, and they liked it so much that they decided to join in and, thus, improve, in a general way, the logistics and transportation for the various resorts here.

Artistic Diving from the sea is easy to spot, with its’ pool bar right on the beach, the pool also has a sunken ‘sit in the water’ bar and is clean and refreshing after a long hard dive trip or fishing net trap ride from Bonbonon to the resort, only 60 odd miles.

Arthur is busy as hell running around making sure everything is just right, and it is! Evalyn sat at the front desk and told me the story of how they decided years ago that this was the place to be, after visiting a Filipino friend with the only resort around. Arthur developed the dive sites by finding them and naming them after guests who had been on the original dives, a nice touch!

Food is good, rooms are basic but quiet and comfortable with air-con if needed, resort is peaceful, people are friendly, but, once again, we had no time to dive the sites as time is a’pressing for Sean and his hectic work schedule. We are grateful to Arthur and Evalyn and their friendly team for their hospitality, and suggest that more people make the trip for the great diving off this West coast of Negros. The Cagayan Islands are only 65 miles or so off the coast, and, by all accounts, the beauty of these islands and the diving in that area, is outstanding – overnight trips only, I believe.

Have a look at www.artisticdiving.com for their info, and happy diving.

We have some friends and sponsors who help make our trip possible, so please check them out on the web and in person on your next visit!
