SIBERIAN TRIP DETAILS
The Rolls Royce will be a low mileage, full service historied, immaculate example of the final years’ manufacturing of this classic model, a model which bridged the chasm between classic Rolls and the more modern design of newer models.
The vehicle has self-levelling suspension and air-conditioning as standard. Tyres fitted will be Grabber AT2 on/off road tyres suited to the rougher driving conditions of Mongolia and parts of Siberia.
The Trans Siberian highway, as far as Mongolia, is in good enough condition, photos are available on several sites on the internet, I’ll post a few from some sections.
The main Mongolian road from the Russian border to Ulan Bataar is in good hardtop condition, (I drove it in July 2005), other roads in country are well graded gravel tracks with numerous shallow river crossings and are nothing the Rolls cannot handle with AT2 tyres.
People interested in joining will normally fly into one airport on the route and fly back from another airport on the route, e.g. fly to Tallinn, Estonia and join us through St.Petersburg for a couple of days and on to Moscow for a few days, then fly out of Moscow airport back home. Cost contributions will only be welcomed when the vehicle is in use, i.e. not when we stay in towns for a few days. Costs are to be worked out, but bear in mind, this car guzzles gas at the rate of 10 miles per gallon. This is, however, a unique trip in a unique car, and I’m looking forward to cruising into Sukhbataar Square in the centre of Ulan Bataar, in a Rolls Royce…….
